Broken but Priceless

Many of us face a health struggle at some point in our lives. Uncomfortable and inconvenient as it may be, it generally has a short duration. One hundred thirty-three million Americans wish for a health struggle with a short duration.

  • Erin is a beautiful young woman, inside and out. I’m thrilled to see how God uses her to reach out to others who are struggling with chronic illness. She’s right, we can’t begin to understand the moment-to-moment struggle, but this post certainly helped me see it in a new light. Thank you, Erin, for your honesty, and thank you, Melony, for sharing Erin’s story!

  • I am very sure that this story will encourage someone today! sometimes we think we have it hard, or we have major obstacles, then we have a clarifying moment, understanding what others have going on

  • Wow… some big overcoming for Erin. Having several auto immune diseases myself.
It’s hard enough trying learn and research and going from doctor to doctor in hope for a answer
Or a miracle. Then add on a very difficult child trama. It’s amazing to me that Erin was about to find her way back to her faith and overcoming some of the hardest challenges.
    Thanks for sharing your story.
wishing you good health and hope you our filled with peace and comfort.
    bless you,
    Angie

  • wow-the spoon analogy was great. I am no where close to where Erin is in her health struggles. But the spoon thing really hit me. I have neurological issues that are not evident to most people. People just assume that I am clumsy and gawky, uncoordinated. They shake their heads and say “That’s just Shannon”. Which is true. But I really do not like being known for being the clumsy one. Its very frustrating for me. I really do want my body to cooperate. I have to work twice as hard, pay twice as much attention. Its tiring sometimes. And people-most people anyway-don’t get it. I have SO OFTEN wanted to put two different size shoes on my husband and have him go trail run 5k…and then wonder why I fall down. (not that he does not respect what I am trying to do…more to have someone ‘normal’ understand.) I am SO GLAD to hear the Erin has found some resolution and healing and is off most of her medications. She is beautiful and to look at her you would not think there was a thing wrong w her. That is probably frustrating to her as well. I have always maintained that our health is one of the biggest things we take for granted.

  • Beautiful story Melony!!

  • Congratulations to Ann. She took the harsh and hurtful stones that were piled upon her in her formative years and instead of being weighed down by them forever, she used them to lay a foundation upon which she could get a firm footing and literally reach for the stars.

  • Ann had a lot of personal strength to work this out on her own. So glad there is help for bipolar now.

  • Ann’s story is amazing.
She proves that you can have
what seems like the world against you,
But still rise up and overcome. Her ability to
rise above and build her strength has me speechless
I can relate to Ann on so many levels and can honestly
Say.. I understand… my heart is full of
wow, sorrow, and compassion for her.
Ann you are inspiring and your story is so many
Things and I’m so grateful you are sharing it.
    God bless you,
    In loving arms,

  • Mel- awesome article! Alyssa is an inspiration for all, she is such a testimony about how God pursues us, even when we don’t want (or don’t think we want) Him to. God is awesome, so is Twyla!

  • Thank you for sharing Alyssa’s overcoming story! Redeeming Love is one of my favorite books and I highly recommend it.

Well written and very encouraging to me – saved by God’s grace.

    Blessings, Maureen

  • Like many, I have read hundreds of wonderful books over the years, and when anyone asks what’s my favorite, I always respond with Francine Rivers’ Redeeming Love. Everyone should read! So proud of you Alyssa, one day at a time, overcoming so many challenges, living in His redeeming love. God Bless and thank you for sharing your story.

  • I have the honor and privilege to work alongside Angel. She is a true testimony of God’s redemption and unending grace.

  • What a blessing to hear Angel’s testimony! Such a powerful, courageous story of redemption and hope. We hurt and reject ourselves, others join in, but Jesus is the only One who heals, forgives, and enables us to transform! Bless you Angel and thank you for sharing your story with Melony so others can be encouraged and blessed.

  • 10th BIRTHDAY! WOW. I was riveted to her story. You are right, Mel, hearing her tell it was powerful. And what she can’t explain is the Grace and Peace that surpasses all understanding, because it comes from the Lord. What a BRAVE and AMAZING woman! Her guilt and shame are gone, and her story is HOPE for some other woman out there to know that there is a way out of that cycle. I am sitting at my desk feeling the Love of the Lord just by hearing her story. Amazing!

  • Angel,
I pray that your heart will always feel the AWESOMENESS of the FATHER. I pray your story is spread throughout our society and reaches those places where girls and women that have experienced these horrors in their lives will see the hope and love that radiates through your eyes!

Father, thank you for Angel’s open heart and sharing spirit. I so appreciate people who are transparent, Lord, and can open up and tell the truth so that others can see you and your works in their life. Please Father, provide Angel with the peace that passes all understanding. Please send people to uplift her. And I pray that she will always have the hope and love in her eyes that she has today! In Jesus’ AWESOME and POWERFUL NAME!!! Amen

  • wow…I have watched this video several times and I am amazed! I am amazed at how God has helped Angel be the great person she is today, and I am proud to say I know her!

  • Thanks everyone for leaving your words of encouragement for Angel. Her story is truly a 180 degree turn from where she started. As Joyce Meyer says, “I may not have had a great start, but I’m gonna have a great finish!” So very true for Angel!

  • Angel, thank you for sharing your powerful testimony. God truly can help us overcome all forms of evil. It grieves me the things you suffered. May God continue to bless you each and every day!

  • What an amazing story of grace and redemption. I have no other words except to thank Angel for her courage in telling.

  • Oh my goodness what a powerful testimony of God’s love and His redeeming grace. I too was a cutter and dealt with bulimia before it was publicly known. I’m grateful that like you I have been able to break free by God’s grace. Thank God you were brought out of the darkness and into the light. Your story needs to be told. Keep talking Angel. You’re able to reach a population of people that others can’t reach. Thank you!!!

  • Working in your church to help others is a broad mission. I pray that you can have a positive effect on many.

  • Angel, I certainly can not identify with this. I hope your life is coming together and is much better for you.

  • Your story echoes that of so many girls/women in our society. I can’t wait to read the rest of your story to see how you overcame. I teach high school, and see so many girls that are in similar situations. Your list of “reasons” as to why you stay in an abusive relationship seems to reflect so many others. I hope that I can share your success with others. Thanks for sharing.

  • Hi Melony,

Just finished reading this post and looking forward to reading part two.

I am so glad you are taking the stories of others, of the journeys, of the things that they have gone through and have overcome!

I know your blog is going to touch the lives of many.

I am over in Kennesaw house and pet setting and will take the next couple of days to catch up with the rest of the posts on your website!

  • I think that honestly, a lot of this goes undetected. Law enforcement can only reach so far. People need more of a heart change. They need Jesus. You cannot legislate or regulate morality.

  • I’ve just read this. This hurts my heart as my daughter was in an abusive relationship for 5 years. I’m very happy you overcame!

  • Jill is a classmate of mine. I have had the privilege and honor of getting to know her and her story over this semester. The strength and fortitude that she has found in Christ to forgive her abusers humbles me. She is an amazing woman, friend, survivor, and overcomer!! Thanks for sharing her story =)

    • I love that she is now volunteering to help other women who have experienced domestic violence. She can speak into their lives in such an authentic way.

  • I am amazed at how much violence is all around us. In many cases, you never see it…it just happens…..happens in homes….happens in the dark of night…we need to love each other more and more. love is what’s missing.

    • We see so much violence on the news. Our society has almost become numb to violence in that it doesn’t shock us or enrage us like it used to. Love is the answer.

  • Wow! There is so much to this story: the sad reality of a child slipping through the cracks, the downward spiral of desperation and the subsequent impact of hitting rock bottom only to discover that the boundless mercies of the Lord had indeed endured.
I was deeply moved by Stacy’s will to first survive and then to overcome, by the far reaching effect of, seemingly benign, acts of kindness toward a lonely little girl, by a group of Christians, and by the powerful cause and effect of one woman lifted from the ashes.

  • With God’s help, Stacy made some hard choices- the harder the choice, the higher she rises. What an inspiration to so many!

  • Stacy’s story demonstrates how God can change the direction of one life with his love. Even when you are at your lowest, he can reach down and pull you out of whatever circumstances you are in. All you have to do is cry out to him and let him take control of your life. Stacy is a beautiful example of this, and it is awesome to hear how she is using her life for God’s glory. She is a wonderful inspiration, and I hope she has all the love and happiness she so richly deserves.

  • Carol, Sandra and Kay ~

Stacy’s story is a perfect example of “it had to be God!” No one else deserves the credit or the glory for all of the wonderful things that have happened in her life. Thanks for your encouraging words!
